Meet The Staff
Cliff Mann CCM, PGA, General Manager/COO
Cliff Mann, General Manager and Chief Operating Officer, came to High Point Country Club with over 25 years’ experience in the club industry. He has worked with some of the top clubs in the Southeast including: Grandfather Golf & Country Club, The Dunes Golf & Beach Club, The Country Club of Florida and Diamond Creek Golf Club. Mann also has previous experience as the Vice President of the Private Club Division of Carolinas Golf Group where he oversaw management of numerous clubs in the Carolinas and Virginia.
Mr. Mann has a diverse background which includes previous work experience as a general manager, clubhouse manager, food & beverage director, membership director, marketing director, head golf professional and director of golf. He also served as the Tournament Coordinator for the SENIOR Tour Championship for six years.
Mr. Mann is a Certified Club Manager (CCM) and member of the Club Managers Association of America. He is also a Class A member of the PGA of America (PGA) and was previously awarded the Golf Professional of the Year in the Carolinas. Additionally, he was twice nominated National PGA Golf Professional of the Year and continues to serve on the rating panel for Golf Digest’s “America’s 100 Greatest Courses.” Originally from Boone, N.C., and prior to turning professional, Mann played on the Wake Forest University Golf Team. Mann has a daughter, Victoria living in Greensboro, NC and a son, Robert who is stationed with the US Army at joint base Lewis-McChord near Tacoma, WA.
Jay Carmichael, CPA, Business Manager / Membership Director
Jay Carmichael is responsible for all member accounts and the day-to-day accounting functions for the Club. She began her career in the banking and asset-based lending fields, but her love for accounting inspired her to become a CPA. Jay joined HPCC in 2001, after working in public accounting as an auditor. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time at the lake with her husband, Greg, and their two daughters, Macy and Grace.
Kirsten Rempfer, Event Coordinator
Before joining HPCC, Kirsten Rempfer worked as the general manager at Adams Farm Swim & Tennis Club in Greensboro, N.C., and at Ridgewood Swim and Tennis in Summerfield, N.C. Both positions taught her the ins and outs of member relations and events, dining, marketing, and tennis and pool management.
A graduate of Elon University, with degrees in communications and political science, Rempfer and her husband, Josh, currently live in High Point with their two dogs.
Heidi Poth, Marketing Director
Originally from Pittsburgh, Heidi Poth earned her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Communications from Clarion University of Pennsylvania, where she served as editor of the university newspaper and was an on-air personality for the university radio station. She used those talents to build a career with an extensive background in various types of marketing, including direct to consumer, medical and community-based organizations.
Heidi is a member of the Junior League of High Point. She and her husband, Dr. Robert Poth, live in Emerywood with their two children, Alexander and Isabella.
Monica Miller, Food and Beverage Director
Monica began her career at Colonial Country Club at a tender age of 15. After working in Private Clubs through high school, Monica moved into Hotel Management. She began her career with Radisson Hotels International; opening the Radisson Hotel Greensboro in 1995. In 1999, Koury Corporation recruited her to open Grandover Resort and Spa, where she held the position of Restaurant Manager for six years. Quaintance Weaver Restaurants and Hotels then offered her the position of Facilities Coordinator, allowing her the opportunity to manage some of Greensboro’s top Hotels and Restaurants, including the O’ Henry Hotel, The Proximity Hotel and Lucky 32. She also apprenticed under Swiss Chef Reto Biaggi for two years, where she was able to strengthen her culinary background. Life came full circle when she accepted the position of General Manager at Colonial Country Club in 2011.
Monica loves deep sea fishing, singing karaoke, volunteering with Carolina Boxer Rescue, playing league softball and refinishing vintage furniture.
Eric Kirkeeng, Executive Chef
Eric comes to us from Bermuda Run Country Club, East and West Clubhouses. Before Bermuda Run, he was here at High Point Country Club, where he served as the Executive Chef as well as overseeing the kitchen operations at Willow Creek Country Club and the Country Club of Salisbury. Before his country club experience, he was the Chef at Ombu Wood Fired Fusion & Nobles Grille here in Winston-Salem.
He received his culinary training at the Scottsdale Culinary Institute in Scottsdale, Arizona. From there, he moved on to Chicago and Washington D.C., where he gained knowledgeable food and beverage experience in some of the finest hotels in the country. Having lived in many different areas of the United States, he and his wife, Darla have fallen in love with the Winston-Salem area and can’t imagine a better place to raise their daughter, Katie.
Travis Burgess, Willow Creek Head Chef
Chef Travis Burgess was born and raised in North Carolina. He graduated East Forsyth High School in 1991. While in High School, he worked as a server at Rock-Ola Cafe and Houlihan’s. From server, he was promoted to assistant General Manager. This is where his love of cooking and baking, inspired by his mother and grandmother, began to grow. This love led him to Johnson & Wales University in Charleston, SC where he graduated with a degree in Culinary Arts in 2001. After graduation, he returned to North Carolina to work for Fresh Direct, the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board and Faye’s Wonderland, his family’s owned and operated business. In 2004, he moved to New York City where he worked with many notable Chefs and industry greats, including Martha Stewart.
Chef Burgess moved home in 2008 and began working in health care management and food service at assisted living and memory care facilities. He was also the Chef at Haw River State Park in Brown Summit, servicing their Conference and Environmental Education Center.

Jim Brotherton, Director of Golf
Jim Brotherton has been the director of golf at High Point Country Club for over two decades. His golf career began at Willow Creek Golf Club, in the 1980s, where he served as assistant golf professional. He soon became the head golf professional at Highland Country Club in Fayetteville, N.C. He returned to High Point Country Club in 1992 and assumed the position of director of golf, overseeing the golf operations for both the Willow Creek and Emerywood facilities. Brotherton manages and organizes tournaments at HPCC, as well as overseeing merchandising at the two Golf Shops and teaching the game of golf to the membership.
Brotherton and his wife, Jana, have been married for more than 30 years. They have two children, Curtis and Rachel. Although he is a native of Virginia, Brotherton calls North Carolina home.
Taylor Williams, HeadGolf Professional
Taylor comes to High Point Country Club after working this past year at the Country Club of Asheville in Asheville, North Carolina. Prior to working at Country Club of Asheville, Taylor worked at Omni Hotels & Resorts in Bedford, PA as the First Assistant Golf Professional from April 2010 until April 2017. He has also worked at Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, FL as an Assistant Professional from October 2007 until April 2010 and he began his Professional career at The Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, WV from February 2006 through October of 2007. David Johnson, Golf Course Superintendent
David Johnson has over 30 years of golf course experience, having worked at Cabarrus Country Club and North Ridge Country Club before coming to High Point Country Club.He has a Turfgrass degree and an Ornamentals of Landscape degree from North Carolina State University.David has served as the golf course superintendent at High Point Country Club for over 21 years.
Since coming to HPCC, David and staff have performed a tremendous amount of productivity to the golf courses and grounds. Some of the list includes; a complete bunker renovation, constructed a state of the art 2 hole practice facility, and most recently performed a greens conversion from bent grass to champion ultra-dwarf bermuda grass.
While at HPCC Johnson and staff have prepared Willow Creek for a multitude of golf tournaments and take extreme pride in having Willow Creek ranked among the top 30 golf courses in the state of North Carolina.
David is a member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, and has earned the status of Certified Golf Course Superintendent; one of only 2,000 superintendents to achieve such an honor. David and his wife Kelly live in High Point with their sons Riley and Nash.
Oscar Blacutt, Director of Tennis
Oscar Blacutt began his professional teaching career at High Point Country Club in 1993 as an assistant tennis pro. In 1995, he founded Carolina Tennis Academy in Greensboro. Blacutt has worked with several nationally ranked players, including two top 10 junior players in the U.S. He also has served as a tennis instructor at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy.
Blacutt was ranked No. 1 as a junior player in Bolivia, as well as in the open division. He was an All-American at Barton College, a four-time Davis Cup player for Bolivia and a Gold Medalist at the 2002 Latin American Olympic Games. Blacutt also is a former No. 1 ranked player in North Carolina in singles, doubles and mixed doubles. One of his most recognized tennis students is John Isner, who started working with Blacutt at the age of 9 at Willow Creek. Isner is now a top 10 player in the world.
Blacutt grew up in La Paz, Bolivia. He and his wife, Julie, are the proud parents of Gianna and Max.
Shannon Snipes, CPT, Fitness Director
Shannon Snipes has a Bachelors of Science degree from UNC-Chapel Hill in exercise and sports science, did graduate work at UNCG in Exercise Physiology and is a certified personal trainer with the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America. She is also certified to teach Silver Sneakers, Water Aerobics, Spinning and Boot Camp.
Snipes and her husband, David, have two children, Mary Keever and Dozier.
Ed Eales, Maintenance Director
Ed is originally from Miami but has been living in North Carolina for 20 years. He is father to two sons, Aidan and Colin. He has over 20 years of HVAC experience as well as 17 years of maintenance experience, mostly in multi-family housing. Ed likes playing softball, cooking, hiking and traveling.
